Honoring Heroes in Troutman

Walk of Heroes · Annual Community Event · Client Project

THE IDEA

How do you give an annual community event a visual identity that immediately tells its story? Walk of Heroes, presented by the Exchange Club of Troutman, honors service members by lining the town’s greenway with American flags purchased in their honor or memory. Building from the Exchange Club’s existing colors and typography, a flag-lined walkway became the defining visual for the event—creating an identity that communicates the experience of Walk of Heroes at a glance.

THE DETAILS

Walk of Heroes began with a simple event design, but as the event grew, its visual identity needed to communicate more of what made the experience meaningful. Using the Exchange Club of Troutman’s established blue, red, and gold palette and existing typography as a foundation, I created a new event-specific design centered around the view guests experience on the greenway itself: a walkway framed by rows of American flags.

That visual became the recognizable thread carried throughout the event’s promotional and on-site materials. Flyers and banners introduce the experience to the community, signage carries the identity into the event itself, and sponsor stickers give local businesses a way to visibly show their support. The event materials also explain that flags can be purchased in honor or memory of a service member, connecting the visual identity directly to the purpose behind the display.

The identity was extended to a fully wrapped trailer used both to advertise Walk of Heroes throughout the community and transport materials for the event. Now in use for three years, the system gives the annual event its own recognizable personality while remaining visually connected to the Exchange Club of Troutman behind it.
